HOLY.
I love terms like “extrapolation.” Its scientific basis can be used for many aspects of life, including personal application—we can input data from an individual's life and discover the trajectory of their existence. Today I heard another term that I must’ve forgotten from my high school years: “vector.” It’s a term that describes the direction and magnitude of an object. Could we apply “vector” to a human life? What if we determined the magnitude and direction of any human from the beginning of life onward? Where would the end be? What would be the final resting point? For centuries human beings have been stacking up data that proves the vector of humankind. Simply put, we all end up at a point called “death.” No one escapes this planet alive.
Work hard, long hours in your 9 to 5 job and you end up, at the end of your life, with the destination of “death.” Lay on the couch and apply minimal efforts to your life’s trajectory—you nevertheless finish in death. Exercise to an extreme or forego all athletic endeavors and the end result is the same: “death.” Acquire great wealth or live as a pauper; either way you still die. If the vector of the human equation leads us to this point, is there any good news? Is there an escape hatch that we have missed?
This is why I love being a Christian. Yes! There is a way out of our fatal end; it’s found in a God who loves us with such intensity and focus that he derailed our perilous journey to the grave. He stole death’s final blow by living every HOLY requirement God ever made AND then made his HOLY record accessible to all who would see their need and trust his provision.
This Lenten season we are exploring the beautiful provision supplied by the biblical term, HOLY. On Wednesdays in Lent we disclose the the outcome of all our best efforts (death) and the destination planned and paid for by one human being who could not fail. On the next six Sundays we specifically look at how Jesus is holy in all he does. All his ways and thoughts and efforts are called “HOLY” - they are completely dedicated to the LORD and to his saving love.
Come join us if you are able. You might find it refreshing to have a positive outlook continuously laid in front of you by our Holy God. All that you experience about his holy self is credited to your account by faith. You can’t earn it or deserve it, but you also can’t lose it because Jesus has already secured this term for you. His resurrection is the stamped guarantee given by God himself.
Peace to you in Jesus!
