Speak.

Have you ever wondered if God is speaking to us today? I’ve seen bumper stickers from various Christian denominations saying that “God is still speaking!” What if God is still speaking to us? What might it sound like or look like? How would we know if it was God or indigestion? What format or medium would it take? Would it be a vision, an actual audible voice, a thought, an idea, a cat running across our path at just the right time?

One antagonist bumper sticker burped out this comment on the topic: “Does God speak to you? Consider medication.” Aside from feeling slightly annoyed or embarrassed when we consider their quip, it’s worth addressing the question, “Does God speak to us today?”

We are starting a series this month on just this topic. I’m even willing to spoil the ending for you and reveal that God does speak to us today. He speaks to us by his Holy Spirit through the Word of God found in all of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. The hymn writer, Emmanuel Cronenwett, says it this way: We have a sure prophetic Word, by inspiration of the Lord; and though assailed on every hand, Jehovah’s Word shall ever stand.

The grass withers and the flowers fall,  but the word of our God endures forever.” // Isaiah 40:8

Trust the Word. Read the Word. Dig deeper into the Word. And be blessed as God speaks to you through his Word, the Bible.

Blessings,
Pastor Al
